Budapest
We spent the night of Friday 9 March in Budapest, staying in relative luxury in the Hotel Bristol. Unfortunately, Sonia found the room too hot so we are spending Saturday night in a motorway service station.
We have been industrious tourists. Sonia swam and soaked in the Gellert thermal baths while I found a laundrette and dried my socks.
We then inspected one of the many heroic statutes at the top of Fisherman's bastion before I led Sonia off for a soup in the rococco exhuberance of the New York cafe.
We found a nice picture of a tree in the only art gallery we found open.
This evening we are going to see the opera Hunyadi Laszlo (we are promised with English subtitles). It is a typical jolly opera tale with the wicked king gorily killing the goodie to get the girl.
Read on to find out where we get to next.
