As the preparations gather pace for our trip to Georgia in April 2022, the route is beginning to firm up. The plan is to leave France and head off to Turin,Art Deco example then make our way to the lovely Castello di Salabue Castello di Salabue where we will be guests of the Davico family. The route will take us down through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, through Albania and onto Greece. There we will spend a few days in Nafplion visiting friends, then onto Athens for a pitstop with my cousin Ruth and then swiftly on through Greece and on through Turkey to Istanbul. No visit to Istanbul is complete without attempting to have lunch with Emel, who for a number of years lived with us in London when the children were small.
Our last big trip in 2018, took us through Turkey and Iran to the Stans. It missed out a few gems on Jims list. So this time we will stop in Turkey at Trabzon to visit the Soumela Monastery, and at the World Heritage Site of Ani, a former Armenian Capital. The site is located on a secluded plateau of northeast Turkey is overlooking a ravine that forms a natural border with Armenia. Crossing into Armenia for us will have to be another journey..
The real mission of this trip is to get to Georgia where we will spend time touring the Country taking in many its fabulous churches and monasteries. At the end of May we will turn round and start heading back to France, via Turkey, Greece, Albania and Italy. This time we hope to visit former neighbours who spend time near Pescara. This will break up our journey North through Switzerland and back to Beaubery.
By clicking on the current location button, you should be able to see how far we have travelled and approximately where we are. Our location is tracked actively when we have our Garmin Inreach switched on. Plus it provides us with the ability to communicate via messages even if out of telephoner wifi range. It also provides an SOS facility in the event of a serious problem - which we hope never to use on this trip.
